This project is the result of the hard work of Chief Smoke, who has led the community for the
last 25 years. The community of Dakota Plains is one of the smallest in the Province of Manitoba
and has struggled to receive adequate funding for their people. Chief Smoke and the Economic
Development team at Dakota Plains hope that this facility represents a historic step towards
self-sufficiency and independence for their people, providing jobs, training and opportunity to
their members.
